GNPC Foundation Turns Down Commissioning of Toilet Facility due to Heaped Refuse Engulfing the Facility

The GNPC Foundation has refused to commission a toilet facility built at Agona Nkwanta Cargo Station due to a heaped refuse at the Cargo Station.

The Agona Nkwanta township continues to face a growing challenge of poor sanitation as residents live increasingly in a town where sewerage is precarious and space for toilet and removal of waste is at premium.

The Cargo station, particularly, has a heaped refuse which keeps blowing all the time, the situation is what has barred the GNPC Foundation from commissioning the toilet facility built there, meanwhile residents living around that area critically need the facility to use.

Registering his displeasure at how refuse has engulfed the Facility, Upper Dixcove Chief, Oberempong Hima Dekyi XIV, called on the people of Ahanta to develop the habit of maintenance culture so that such projects would not be white elephants.

He noted that people like to request for many projects, yet they fail to even maintain and manage the little ones they are given, citing the case at the Cargo Station as an instance.

He added that “if we want GNPC to honour our requests, let’s make good use of the items and projects they have given us.”

To him, the toilet facility will be useless if refuse keep growing around it, preventing people from accessing and using it, he said matter-of-factly.

So director, we are not so happy with what is happening; by next week, make sure the refuse is removed so that GNPC Foundation can commission the toilet, Oberempong Hima Dekyi XIV commanded the deputy coordinating director of the Municipality, Mr Haruna who was at the ceremony.

Ending his speech at the donation of Chemical and Haematology Analyzers to the Hima Dekyi Hospital in Dixcove by the GNPC Foundation, the Upper Dixcove Chief, however, pleaded with the Foundation to continue to bless the people of Ahanta with more of the donations and projects.
