UG: Dean of Students abruptly orders end of ISSA blood donation exercise

A blood donation exercise, organized by the Information Studies Students’ Association (ISSA) of the University of Ghana as part of their 20th-anniversary celebration could not see a successful end as the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs ordered it to cease.

According to the Dean, the students do not have clearance from the University Hospital to carry out the exercise.

However, the students, who are unhappy with the action of the Dean, do not understand why the activity will be stopped even though they sent an official notice to him.

“We sent an outline which included the donation and it was approved by the Dean so I don’t know why this is happening,” ISSA President, Victoria Antwi told UniversNews.

Victoria Antwi says that the action of the Dean, Prof. Godfred Bokpin is worrying and very disappointing as they invested in the program.

The blood donation exercise was supported by the National Blood Bank.

Speaking to UniversNews on the need for ISSA to carry such an exercise, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Association, Isaac Asare stated that the importance of blood donation exercises could never be overemphasized.

“This is the survival of an Association and we think the survival of human lives is very important. So while we celebrate the survival of our Association, we also think about the survival of humans across the country,” he said.
