Major markets and lorry stations in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly are set for a disinfection exercise at the behest of the Public Health Emergency Committee of the Assembly.
The exercise, which will take place on Monday, April 6, 2020, follows the national exercise which is in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana and is aimed at combatting and preventing the spread of the Coronavirus.
Markets and lorry stations in Agona, Ewusiejoe, New Amanful, Abura, Kejabil, Apowa, Beahu, Busua, and Aboade will be disinfected, thus, they will be closed down from Sunday, April 5, 2020 to Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
To observe the social distancing preventive measure, fish sellers, truck pushers, and other sellers who do not have stalls and sheds have been directed to relocate to the Stanford Bridge Stadium in Domeabra, a suburb of Agona, while the others have been cautioned to keep their items and wares safe for the exercise to take place smoothly.
Meanwhile, the Transport Unions have been tasked to ensure decongestion of their lorry stations to achieve best social distancing practices, as well as making sure drivers and passengers use washing facilities provided by the Assembly to wash their hands regularly.
“Taxis and Trotro vehicles that take three (3) passengers on a row shall not take more than two (2) passengers on a row with one (1) passenger in the front. A nine (9) Member Taskforce has been formed to ensure compliance with the above seating directives and other related issues,” part of the release dated April 3, 2020 said.
It continues to add that “the fares will remain as being charged currently until further directives from the national level.”
