You’re Back To Your Ancestral Home – People of Princess Town Welcome American Siblings

It was full of joy for the people of Princess Town, a community in the Ahanta West Municipality to welcome home their American siblings who were taken away and lost touch with them during the slave trade till date.

In a durba, the people and residents of Princess Town gathered to mark this historical day on Sunday, March 15, 2020 to welcome Mr. Howard Robertson and his family who have come from America, and to reunite with the people of their ancestral home, Princess Town.

The program was graced by Nananom, Secretary to the Princess Town Sister-City in Accra, and other dignitaries.

Mr. Stephen Abban who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the people of Princess Town Sister-City, Ghana Chapter, Accra thanked God for the lives of Mr. Robertson and his family and also for coming back to their root.

“So many years ago, you were separated from us but we thank God for this historic reunion. This is where you belong to and we receive you with all arms open”. Princess Town also known as Kpɛkɛzo, your ancestral home has survived many years of difficulties, but I’m happy to announce to you that everything is started now and we have embarked on the journey of developing your lovely city. We want Princess Town to be like a standard city in the United States of America”, he said.

Mr Stephen Abban also touched on some of the the challenges confronting the development of the community such as their school which is in a dire need of facelift, lack of a vocational training center, potable water, upgrading their health center and among others.

He said that currently, the health post has only one Ward which serve all the people in the ten communities making up the two electoral areas in that hinterland and that there’s the need to get separate wards.

He thanked Nananom for their efforts that has seen their road under construction and pleaded to the government to fast struck its completion.

He called on their newly reunited family to help put their Community at its best position in terms of development.

Nana Aka-Nwonza III, Chief of Bakanta in Ellembelle and also the secretary to the Princess stool delivered an address on behalf of Nananom.

He said that the day is a historical one and that it calls for jubilation. He expressed the joy of Nananom for seeing their son [Mr Robertson and his family] in their midst.

However, he said that the community could have seen better development as at now but cheiftancy dispute has raided it out but thanks to God for His intervention.

He said, though the chieftaincy dispute was difficult to solve but Nananom have managed to settle it out of court which is a big achievement by Nananom. He called on all the parties in the chieftaincy affairs of the community to remain faithful to the stool in order to continue enjoying the peace that the community is seeing today.

He encouraged the youth to support Nananom in every good decision taken for the betterment of Princess Town. He seized the opportunity and called on the Princess Town people in diaspora to come home to help develop their beloved community.

Afterwards, Mr Haward Robertson was enstooled as the Nkosuohene of Princess Town to deputise Nana Abban, the key person in Princess Town’s development and also the Nkosuohene of Tarkwa Abontoako.

Nana Abban expressed his joy for getting someone to duputise him to develop the community.


“I’m the most happiest man today for having you on my side. This means that our community is on the way to grow faster and faster and that the people here will also see progress in their lives”, he opined.

Mr. Howard Robertson accepted the Nkosuohene position and pledged to assist in divers ways to the development of the community.

“Thank you all. I’m very much humbled and pleased to be here today. I thank you for receiving and welcoming me home. This is indeed an art of God because I did not know previously until twelve years ago I knew that this was my ancestral home.”
Centuries ago, someone bought our families of precious humans to abroad and we did not know where we came from and still most of us don’t. As a black American, I’m happy that we have found out where our ancestral root is from. We represent those who survived and as my home, I promise that I will do everything that I can to make life better for you here in princess Town”, he assured.

The Ahanta’s rich Cultural dances such as Akyene-kwasi and Awolɛbɛndɔ was displayed to entertain the gathering.
