Coronavirus: Ahanta West MCE urges Ghanaians to take public education serious.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Henrietta Mary Eyison, in a speech read on behalf of the President- Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo- at the 63rd Independence Day celebration parade at Agona Ahanta said, among others, that:
Ghana has solid reasons to rejoice because it is a blessed nation.

“It was sixty-three (63) years ago, today, that our forefathers’ dream of independence for our nation became a reality. Ghana became an independent nation, and gained her freedom from the colonial power, Britain.”

“This day will never be forgotten, the 6th of March, 1957, when the Gold Coast successfully got their independence officially.”

“Today, as we mark this sacred day on our calendar, it is worth noting that the great majority of our population was born after 6th March, 1957.”

“Since we gained our independence, we have had difficulties, and stumbled in the search to reach our potential, but Ghana has never lost her position as the inspirational leading light on the African continent.”

She said, “at sixty-three (63), we know that Ghana has squandered many opportunities that, properly utilised, would have brought us to the economic breakthrough to which we aspire.”

“We lament, and rightly so, the infrastructure deficits that plague all sectors of our lives, and the considerable number of our people who still live in poverty.”

“But, if truth be told, we have solid reason to rejoice and be thankful to the Almighty, for this is a blessed nation.”

She noted that it surely must count for something that Ghana has been spared the ravages of civil war that have brought havoc to some of our neighbours and other nations on the African continent and we cannot take for granted the peace and stability that define Ghana.

She advised all Ghanaians in this period of COVID-19/Corona virus to listen to and take seriously the public education messages been put out by the public Health Authorities and urged the churches, mosque, traditional authorities, civil society organizations and opinion leaders, all to join in helping to keep Ghana safe.

Hon. Eyison continued by saying that it is a good thing that Ghanaians are usually so very hard on ourselves, and the critical voices, sometimes, drown out everything else.

“For as long as we have not achieved our economic goals, we cannot, and we should not, relax and be complacent. However, we should learn to count our many blessings, and not talk ourselves down unnecessarily.”

Madam Eyison on behalf of the President presented the Presidential awards to students who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and WASSCE in the year 2019.

The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, just as in 2019, also awarded students who came tops in the learning and writing of the Ahanta Language which is the native language of the people of the Municipality with certificates and undisclosed cash prizes.

Again, schools that excelled in the March Past were given dust bins, football Jersey and footballs.
