Educational Policies Must Be Piloted Before Implemented – Lecturer

A lecturer at the Department of Teacher Education in the University of Ghana, Dr. Eliot Kumassah, has proposed that new educational policies should be piloted before they are implemented.

He said this will equip policy makers to readily identify the relevance of such policies as well as the effects of the policies on the students. To him, it is proper to assess the needs of the country or the locality in which the implementation is going to take place instead of implementing a policy because a specific country is running same or a similar one.

Speaking at the launch of the University of Ghana Education Students’ Association Week Celebration on Monday, March 2, 2020, Dr. Kumassah advocated for a decentralized system, and called on policy makers to engage the relevant stakeholders especially teachers in the formulation of new educational policies.

In the wake of the seeming politicization of Ghana’s educational system, Dr Kumassah suggested that the country should have a national plan which will serve as the benchmark for all political parties and successive governments so they just do not implement policies to score political points.

The EDSA week celebration is slated for 23rd to 28th March, 2020. Activities that would mark the celebration include but not limited to “rep your club jersey”, a WOCOM Conference, health screening, Educators Debate Championship, sporting activities among others.
