The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region has resolved to appoint one party member to replace their late Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. George Kwame Aboagye.
The National leadership of the Party met Constituency executives through Regional leadership on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 and agreed that there will be no primaries to fill the vacancy created by the demise of the late PC.
However, one of the following persons – Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Okumi Andoh, Hon. Ebenezer Essien and Ing. Kofi Aidoo – will be appointed to represent the Party in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
“We, therefore, advise all and sundry to adhere to the decision of the party. Moreover, we plead with all three shortlisted persons and their supporters to comport themselves and that whoever is nominated should be welcomed and supported by all,” said Hon. Isaac Simmons Bassaw, the NDC Constituency Secretary, in a release on Tuesday.
The Demise of Hon Aboagye
Hon. George Kwame Aboagye, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotions Center (GIPC), passed on on February 3, 2020 at the Central Regional Teaching Hospital in Cape Coast after a short illness.
Having served under the then President, John Evans Atta Mills, and excelled as the GIPC Boss, the NDC fell on him in 2012 to wrestle power from the NPP who had controlled the Ahanta West Constituency for sixteen (16) years.
In 2019, the NDC elected him as the Parliamentary Candidate to win the seat from the NPP, yet unfortunately, that was never meant to be.
It is most likely the nomination of a new Parliamentary Candidate will come before his funeral takes place, the party has said.
