PIAC urges gov’t to resource technical and vocational schools

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has entreated the government to adequately resource technical and vocational schools under its Free Senior High School program.

This, PIAC says, will effectively enhance teaching and learning activities.

The independent statutory body – which is mandated to promote transparency and accountability in the management of petroleum revenues in Ghana – released its 2020 report Tuesday on the “2018-2019 Free SHS monitoring” where it made its observations on the policy known.

In an exercise conducted in fifty-one schools across eight regions comprising the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central, Greater Accra, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, and Western Regions, PIAC observed that some educational resources were not catered for under the policy.

It adds that this was not clearly communicated to parents, leading to some situations where parents refused to assume responsibility.
