The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), as part of its fulfilment of a promise made to winners of a ‘Girls In ICT’ Competition, yesterday presented computers and accessories to Abura MA JHS and Agona Nkwanta SDA JHS in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western region.
The project is part of the government’s effort at enhancing the teaching and learning of Information Communication and Technology as well as GIFEC’s school connectivity and girls in ICT project, which seeks to help bridge the digital gap between rural communities and the cities and also help to facilitate practical lessons in ICT in the country.
During the presentation, the Zonal Manager for Western Region, Mr. Selorm Dzokoto, thanked the school authorities and the communities for providing centres for the computers and their accessories to be kept in.
He said the initiative seeks to facilitate the study of ICT in basic schools in the country, especially, in an effort to enhance the knowledge of girls in ICT.
He revealed that monitoring will be done periodically to make sure the computers and accessories are put to good use.
He, therefore, urged the school authorities to ensure maximum use of the electronic gadgets to enable the community to benefit from the investment made.
The Municipal Chief Executive- Hon. Henrietta Mary Eyison- on her part, urged the gathering to recognise and appreciate the various interventions by the government, under the able leadership of His Excellency the President.
She thanked the Ministry of Communication and GIFEC for the provision of the equipment to the schools.
She appealed to GIFEC to extend the gesture to cover more schools in the Municipality.
In addition, she urged the students to take advantage of the initiative to improve on their knowledge and skills in ICT.

The schools were presented with 15 desktop computers with 15 UPS, 1 scanner, 1 projector, 1 Air condition and 1 printer. The initiative by GIFEC is to, ultimately, provide access to computers to teachers and students in each school for teaching and learning.
