The Ahanta West Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwesi Asuobenyah Buah has called on leaders in the Ahanta West Municipality to demonstrate keen interest in tourism. To him, it is high time Ahantas started rebranding and repackaging tourist sites in the municipality because tourism would go a long way to help in revenue generation.
He made this call and suggestion on Friday, January 17, 2020 in an interview with Ogya FM’s morning show host, Ngosraba Ekow Yankey on the Ogya Morning Delight.
Citing some tourist sites in the Ahanta West municipality, the health practitioner revealed that there are many tourism potentials in the municipality that need to be properly utilised.
“We need to spend money to develop our tourism potentials, otherwise, we’ll be there like that, gaining nothing,” Mr Buah asserted.
He also maintained that if the leadership of Ahanta could manage to play effective role in the Year of Return initiative by the government, Ahanta West would have attracted more investors as well as businesses, thereby enhancing massive development. In persuant to this, he emphasized that politicians, traditional leaders, the clergy and “all of us should tap into our natural resources.”
Another suggestion he made was the setting up of a sub-committee on tourism at the Assembly level to help the course of generating money for a proper documentary to showcase what Ahanta has got as far as tourism is concerned. Through proper arrangement that would draw great Ahanta media personalities together, Honourable Buah is highly optimistic that an exclusively comprehensive documentary can be produced to air on the national media, and be pushed through the Ministry of Tourism to get international attention.
Nevertheless, he urged on Ahantas to push through the Tourism Ministry “so we can prepare a reserved place to keep the Head of Otumfuo Badu Bonsu II, which in itself is a great history for us.”
Ahanta West can boast of about four (4) forts located at Butre, Dixcove, Akwidaa and Princess Town which all lack proper branding and packaging, hence the need to rebrand and repackage them including other tourist sites to attract investors and businesses into the Municipality.
